Stronger Connections.
Year 4, 5 & 6.
Context
Today, more than half the people in the world live in an urban area. By 2050, it is predicted that this number will rise to 70% of the world’s population. Throughout this project, children looked at the many different ways that people live around the world and identified how our lifestyles can impact the environment and the other people around us. They explored possible improvements that they could make to our city, as well as designing cities for the future to create more environmentally, socially and economically sustainable communities for all.
The Audience
Cultivating Community.
An organisation in Melbourne working with diverse and low income communities to create fair, secure and resilient food systems.
The Problem
Many community gardens support the environmental and economic sustainability of Melbourne. However not many of them are specifically designed to encourage social sustainability and connectedness.
The Solution
Design and create an outdoor item that encourages social connectedness for people visiting the Cultivating Communities gardens.
